Non-contractual status
This document explains VinylStack's design philosophy. It does not form part of any contract, create legal rights or obligations, or guarantee availability, permanence, commercial value, payment or a particular product feature. Binding rights appear only in the applicable Accepted Agreement and its Schedules.
Mission
VinylStack exists to bring emotion and context back to music. Albums are not merely collections of files: they carry stories, people, places, Artwork, sequence and memory.
Vision
To build a meaningful place to experience, collect and support music, giving physical and digital formats a thoughtful relationship rather than asking one to replace the other.
Product principles
1. Music deserves context
Every recording represents somebody's time, creativity and emotion. VinylStack should preserve the stories, credits and circumstances that help listeners understand the work.
2. Albums matter
Sequencing, Artwork, lyrics, credits and intentional listening matter. VinylStack should respect the album as a creative form while allowing clearly labelled personal experiences where rights permit.
3. Collecting creates connection
Maintaining a collection and an account-bound Digital Vinyl licence can create a different relationship with music from anonymous, disposable playback. Product language must never confuse that collector experience with ownership of copyright or a downloadable master.
4. Artists and Rights Holders retain their work
VinylStack does not seek ownership of creative work merely because it is uploaded. Each Rights Holder retains title to the rights they own or control, except where a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise. VinylStack receives only the permissions required for agreed platform uses.
5. Digital should enhance physical
Digital Vinyl should extend the record experience through Artwork, stories, photography, spoken introductions and contextual material. Where physical records are produced, the relationship between editions should be accurate and transparent.
6. Technology should serve the music
The interface should feel calm, simple and intentional. Security, delivery and creative technology should support the experience without becoming a false promise or an obstacle to understanding it.
7. Every record has a story
Why music was written, where it was recorded, who contributed and what it meant can matter as much as the playback itself. Artist-approved stories deserve a considered place beside the music.
8. Discovery should feel personal and explainable
Collectors should understand why music has been suggested. Discovery may use mood, context, collection or listening signals only within the approved privacy and data-use boundaries.
9. Creativity must respect creativity
Music can inspire new personal creative work. Inspired By, MixDisc and Re-Master experiences must respect copyright, preserve the original work, avoid unauthorised distribution and remain within the rights of the available playback source.
10. Trust is more valuable than growth
Collectors should understand what they are acquiring. Artists should understand how their work is used and how aggregate support is measured. VinylStack should prefer a clear limitation to an impressive but unverified claim.
11. Limited means limited
Where VinylStack expressly offers a limited physical Studio Press, its edition size, numbering and production history should be accurate and should not be increased retrospectively. This principle becomes binding only where incorporated into the applicable sale terms.
12. Stories belong beside songs
Lyrics, photography, credits, studio notes, voice introductions and artist narratives are part of the record experience, not merely decoration. They remain subject to their own rights and permissions.
13. Listening should be intentional
VinylStack should encourage listeners to choose and experience a record, not default every interaction to passive background consumption.
14. Collector support should be transparent
Artists should be able to understand aggregate listener engagement without receiving private listener identities or individual histories. Any claim that a purchase financially supports an Artist must be backed by an approved earnings and payout model.
15. Digital Vinyl can evolve carefully
An Artist may add approved stories, photography or contextual material without silently replacing the music or changing the listener's agreed rights. Material changes should be versioned and communicated where required.
16. Simplicity is a feature
The platform should not become complicated merely because it can. Legal and commercial explanations should be as understandable as the product itself.
17. Respect copyright
Artists should not fear that participating in VinylStack places their rights at unnecessary risk. Collectors should understand the difference between a playback Licence, collection presentation and ownership of the underlying work.
18. Build for the long term without promising forever
VinylStack should design collections, Artist histories and release records with long-term care. That aspiration is not a guarantee that every service, feature or item will remain available indefinitely; binding continuity, withdrawal and remedy rules belong in the applicable Agreements.
Product promise
VinylStack will strive to respect Artists, Rights Holders, Collectors, creativity, ownership, privacy and the stories carried by music. Product copy must remain subordinate to verified implementation and approved contractual terms.
We don't stream records. We collect stories.
